Amidst a verbal altercation—the latest confrontation in an ongoing feud—a 16-year-old suspect repeatedly fired at a 17-year-old boy, even after the intended victim tried to escape the scene. The victim was shot in the hand before his mother intervened and returned fire, hitting the assailant in the thigh. Both teens were hospitalized, but the mother is not facing charges as detectives said “the facts indicate her actions were justified,” and she was within her legal rights to defend her son. The suspect was arrested and charged as an adult for attempted homicide. (triblive.com, Pittsburg, Pa., 04/23/21)

An armed man high on narcotics assaulted a female family member, threatening her. The woman was able to draw and fire her own gun in self-defense. The woman sustained bruising to her face; the attacker was transported to the hospital for a non-lethal wound. The District Attorney declined to charge the woman.
