A woman who was being beaten and choked by her ex-boyfriend was able to access a firearm and fatally shoot her abuser. The victim, who had a restraining order against the man for a previous domestic violence incident, called 9-1-1. No charges were filed. (hannapub.com, Wildsville, La., 12/01/21)

A group of seven minors targeted an elderly woman’s home for a robbery. Around 1 a.m. the resident awoke to the sound of breaking glass. She armed herself and confronted the mass of intruders. One of the home invaders shot at the woman, hitting her once, but she was able to return fire. None of the seven were hit, but all were later arrested. The group has been charged with aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit murder, armed robbery, cruelty to an elderly person, burglary and home invasion.
