NRA Women The Armed Citizen Aiming A Pistol

These accounts of brave women who defended themselves with a firearm appeared in an earlier ediiton of The Armed Citizen®.

A 35-year-old Memphis woman was at work late one Sunday evening when her ex-boyfriend showed up, brandished a firearm and instigated an argument. A co-worker intervened, prompting the man, 34, to flee the scene. Intent on finishing what he started, the man arrived at the woman’s home around 1 a.m., still armed. After a confrontation, the woman, in fear for her life, drew her own firearm and fired, hitting the man. First responders began lifesaving measures upon arrival, but the man succumbed to his wounds on the scene. After an investigation, the woman was not charged. (wreg.com, Mason, TN 2/8/21)

A Mississippi woman who had been beaten and abused by her boyfriend for 10 hours straight will not face charges in what deputies say was a justified shooting. After the woman was released from the hospital after being treated for wounds suffered during the attack—which included injuries from a whiskey bottle that had been broken over head—she went to authorities, who then issued a warrant for the suspect. Fearing he would return to her home, the woman asked a girlfriend to spend the night at her house. Just as she anticipated, the man came back, broke through her window and then into the bedroom, where the women had retreated. But the woman had armed herself with a deer rifle and was forced to fire upon the man as he charged her, killing him and ending his ability to further terrorize and injure her.
