After repeatedly threatening her, a man broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house, forcing his way into a bedroom where the woman and her young son were hiding. The woman immediately dialed 9-1-1 and, fearing for her life, fired her gun at the intruder. Operators heard the gun shot, and dispatched officers to her residence, where they discovered the suspect on the driveway suffering from a single gunshot wound to the groin. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Assault and menacing charges were pending against the man. (KDRV.com), Grants Pass, Ore., 3/11/19)

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from a home at about one evening after the wife of the 71-year-old homeowner had used a firearm to defend against a man who was attempting to break into their home—for the second time. The 39-year-old offender, who had already served prison time for breaking into the same home a year earlier, returned to the scene of his first crime, and engaged the male homeowner in a verbal dispute. The criminal then attempted to enter the home in a threatening manner, but the wife, 62, intervened and shot the man in the torso. Charges were once again pending against the intruder.
