A 56-year-old man was shot and killed by a woman with whom he was in a relationship after reportedly sexually assaulting her—and attempting to assault her a second time. The woman, who told authorities she had been in an on-again, off-again with the man for five years, said that he had assaulted her at gunpoint in her home. The woman told detectives that she was able to get ahold of the handgun after the first incident, and fired at the decedent several times when he attempted a second assault. The woman went to a hospital, where she reported the incident. The investigation is still pending. (lakeconews.com, Lake County, CA, 7/9/21)

A couple was watching TV in their bedroom when they heard the sound of running water emanating from a bathroom. Upon investigation, they discovered broken glass by their front door. The wife immediately grabbed a shotgun and the couple proceeded to enter the bathroom, where they discovered a 25-year-old man taking a shower. The couple held him at gunpoint until police arrived. An investigation revealed that the intruder had broken into the home with a ceramic garden ornament found on the lawn. The circumstances that led him to take a shower are still being investigated. Meantime, the man is now facing residential burglary charges.  (sacramento.cbslocal.com, Meadow Vista, CA 6/11/21)
