St. Louis homeowners will not face charges after shooting an intruder who was attempting to burglarize their home. Here’s what we know:

Police responded to calls around 4 a.m. about a suspect who had broken into the home and was trying to steal property. One of the homeowners fired at the intruder, wounding him. The injured suspect fled, and even passed the responding officers who were ordering him to stop. A K-9 eventually searched the vicinity, which enabled police to capture the badly injured suspect. He was taken to hospital in critical condition. Ultimately the man, who had prior burglary convictions, was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree attempted burglary, and resisting arrest with a felony, according to reports. He reportedly was being held on a $200,000 cash-only bond. It was also discovered that the suspect had tried to enter another nearby home before deciding on his fateful target. A local attorney said the homeowner probably had a legal right to open fire: "In your home, all you need is a reasonable fear that you might get hurt." (theblaze.com; St. Louis, MO; 5/21/24)
