Springfield Armory has become of today’s most well-known manufacturers of 1911 pistols, offering an expansive collection of the revered platform in multiple calibers. Now the company has announced another to its line up with the release of the 1911 Operator 9mm.

Previously released in .45 ACP, this new 9mm version of the pistol features everything that made the original popular: a Tactical Rack rear/tritium front sight set; rugged G10 VZ Grips; ambidextrous safety; two magazines with bumper pads with increased capacity of nine rounds; and forward slide serrations and more. The pistol also adds capacity with a 9-round magazine, due to the 9mm chambering.

The pistol has a rugged, low-key black Cerakote finish on its forged steel slide and frame, which guards against the elements and provides lifetime durability. The frame features an integrated Picatinny accessory rail on the dustcover for a light or laser.

The 5" fully supported ramped match-grade barrel, made from forged stainless steel, is designed to deliver the maximum in both barrel life and downrange performance. And for tool-free takedown in the field, the Operator features a traditional barrel bushing for ease and simplicity.

“Springfield Armory 1911 pistols are renowned for their performance, strength and capabilities,” says Steve Kramer, vice president of marketing. “And with the popular Operator pistol now available in 9mm, shooters have a new option with this duty-grade premiere defensive pistol.”

MSRP is $1,184.
