A 76-year-old Orlando, Fla., woman was assaulted by her own daughter. The daughter, 54, had an extensive criminal record that included aggravated battery, domestic violence and driving under the influence. After an argument between them ensued, the daughter began beating her on the chest. Fearing for her life, the mother pulled a .22 cal. handgun from her pocket and shot at the attacking daughter, hitting her in the leg. She was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, but faces charges for the physical attack. The mother will not face charges. (clickorlando.com, 4/23/20, Orlando, Fla.)

After deciding to purchase a cell phone advertised online, a 16-year-old boy requested to meet the seller in a public place to complete the transaction. However, the parking lot of a Georgia grocery store in the afternoon was not enough to deter three men who turned up to the meeting with the intention of robbing the teenager. As the thugs attacked the boy and tried to get the money out of his pocket, punching him in the face, they were interrupted with an unexpected surprise as the boy’s mother, who was watching the encounter from nearby, rushed to his defense with her legally concealed pistol. The woman fired and the men scattered, unscathed and without the boy’s money. The boy sustained minor injuries from the attack, but is alive thanks to his mother’s intervention. The mother is not expected to face charges, as police said she "has the legal right to carry a firearm anywhere in the state.". (AIC.com, 6/23/20, Dallas, Ga.)
