A Houston couple—a husband and his wife, who was nine months pregnant—kept their wits about them and ultimately proved to be no match for an armed thug when he attacked and threatened to kill them outside of a gas station late one afternoon.

The wife had parked in front of the convenience store to deliver dinner to her husband, who was employed at the store. Little did she know that two armed men in a silver SUV were parked nearby.

"I got out of my car, and immediately the guy in the passenger seat of the silver car got out with an AR and told me that I startled him," the woman told local reporters. The woman then called her husband, who came outside. It was then that the man with the rifle climbed into the driver’s seat of a car that was parked next to the SUV.

According to reports, corroborated by video surveillance, the menacing man repeatedly asked the husband if he “wanted to die tonight.” The couple tried to ignore him, even as he pointed a gun at them multiple times. But it was when the man began to pistol-whip the husband that the wife woman drew a gun from her bag and shot the miscreant. The husband also fired on him with his own handgun.

"Thank God we had our guns," the woman told KTRK news. "I've never been happier to be a gun carrier."

Surveillance video also shows the woman holding the man at gunpoint until help arrived, the station said. The man, a 39-year-old convicted felon, was hospitalized, and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon. A second suspect remained on the loose.
