A recently released prison inmate continued to make poor choices, breaking into an Oklahoma City apartment occupied by a woman and her four children. A next-door neighbor said they initially believed the home intruder was seeking shelter from the cold, but he eventually became violent with her neighbor, the mother of four, when she wouldn’t open her door. Neither resident had ever seen the man, 37, and initially didn’t call authorities because they believed he was simply a homeless man seeking warmth. Their minds were soon changed, however, when they each heard him trying to open their doors, accompanied by yelling and cursing. Acting in the interest of safety, the neighbor called police, but not before the violent man kicked down the next-door mother’s door. Fortunately she was prepared to defend herself and was able to fire her pistol at the man, hitting him in the neck. The man ran away but was discovered by police a short time later in an adjacent building, suffering from life-threatening wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery. The man was set to be booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center upon release from the hospital. Local reports stated that according to the OK Department of Corrections website, the felon had spent less than a year in prison for a grand larceny conviction.
