An attempted home invasion—which was seemingly elaborate but not well thought out—ended badly for at least two of three armed men who tried to grab a woman as she entered her apartment. Here’s what we know:

At about 2 a.m. a woman was returning home after being out with her boyfriend and proceeded to walk into her first-floor rowhome apartment, but was interrupted by the three thugs who had other ideas. The woman was armed and, during a scuffle in which the woman feared for her life, shot at the men, fatally wounding one and injuring another. Police found the deceased man in the back of her apartment. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene from gunshot wounds to the head and chest. The other injured man reportedly went to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder.

According to reports, preliminary investigations show that the three men tried to break into her home while dressed as police officers. One of the men reportedly wore a badge attached to a chain around his neck.

As of this writing, the woman reportedly was cooperating with police and had not been charged. (cbsnews.com; Philadelphia, Pa., 3/30/24)
