On August 3, 2025, the Salem Hunting Club in Salem, Ohio—fresh from celebrating its 80th anniversary—hosted its first Women On Target Instructional Shooting Clinic. The pistol-only event welcomed nine women ranging in age from 21 to 70 and featured an all-female team of instructors, assistant instructors, and range safety officers. At the helm was clinic director and chief instructor Angela Vincent, a growing force in Ohio’s firearms community.
Angela has a gift for bringing the right people together and making things happen. When Salem, already home to a women’s rifle league, wanted to host its first Women On Target event, they knew who to call. In addition to teaching NRA classes, Angela leads the Mahoning Valley chapter of A Girl and A Gun, which meets twice a month in Austintown. The programs are synergistic—many women who take their first shots at a Women On Target clinics later join A Girl and A Gun, while members of that shooting group often become instructors or RSOs at future Women On Target events.
Word is spreading. WKBN, a local news station, arrived early to interview her and capture the excitement. “Our local news is good to me,” she says modestly, though it’s clear her media savvy plays no small part in her success. More than once, a single TV segment has filled a clinic overnight.
Angela isn’t slowing down. She’s already planning her next certification (rifle instructor) and is looking forward to the NRA Range Development Conference August 21-22. She is exploring options for building her own range in Northeast Ohio, with education at its core.
Her advice to any woman considering taking a first gun class? “Do it! It is the most empowering thing you can do for yourself.”
Whether you’re a woman seeking a supportive place to begin your firearms journey, or a club looking to bring new faces through the gate, Women On Target might just be the spark you’ve been waiting for. Just ask Angela—chances are, she’s already one step ahead.
