NRA Women The Armed Citizen Drawing A Pistol

A woman who was being battered by her boyfriend defended herself with his own firearm—shooting him in the leg. Here’s what happened, according to reports:

Upon returning home from a local bar, the couple engaged in an argument on their porch, which was corroborated by neighbors who heard them. At some point the man had removed a gun from his vehicle and placed it on the porch. During the argument, the man then began battering the woman, knocking her to the ground and strangling her to the point of it interfering with her breathing. When the man let up, the woman was able to get up and grab the nearby gun. Seeing that, the man charged the woman. In fear for her life, the woman discharged the firearm, hitting the man once in the leg. The couple then got into a vehicle to go to the hospital, which is when police arrived at the scene after responding to calls by neighbors for shots fired. The man told police that his girlfriend shot him by accident. However, obvious physical evidence of injuries on the woman—several broken fingernails, scratches on both arms, and dirt and leaves in her hair—led them to arrest the man for domestic battery by strangulation, charges he will face from jail after being released from the hospital. The woman was not charged. (fox13news.com; Brooksville, Fla.; 12/23/23)
