The following accounts of brave armed women who defended themselves and their families appeared in previous editions of The Armed Citizen®.
A 51-year-old man, armed with a shovel and a lug wrench, forced his way into the home of a Louisiana woman who was home with her two young children. The incident, which occurred at about 5 a.m., resolved when the woman allegedly shot the perpetrator, killing him. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s office concluded that the case was likely a "homeowner exercising her Second Amendment rights to protect herself and her children from a violent home invasion." It turns out that the intruder was out on parole after serving 20 years for armed robbery. He was also discovered to be connected to an alleged carjacking that took place just hours prior to the home invasion. (cbsnews.com; Tangipahoa Parish, La.; 1/10/23)
A woman who was reportedly physically and mentally abused for days by a man gained control of his gun during a struggled and turned it on him, fatally wounding him. Sheriff’s office reports said that "[the man] repeatedly made threats to kill the domestic violence victim while brandishing a firearm at her." The woman subsequently went to the hospital for treatment of the injuries incurred during the incident and from past physical abuse, the sheriff’s office said. She has since been released from the hospital, and has not been arrested. The sheriff’s office said the perpetrator had been prohibited from owning firearms because of his criminal history.
