A woman who was being assaulted by her domestic partner was forced to defend herself with her firearm after the abuse escalated to her fearing for her life. According to reports, the woman and the abuser had been arguing on and off since the previous Friday. When she returned to her home the following Tuesday, the man was already inside her house. The arguing resumed, and the man began to push and pull her off the sofa. The woman attempted to retreat to her bedroom to escape the violence, and that’s when he picked up a glass candle holder, held it over her and threatened to use it as a weapon. At that point he hit her once, which is when the woman felt her life was in jeopardy. She then grabbed her gun from a bag that was near the bed and fired at him once, striking him. The man survived and left her residence in his own vehicle. Police found him a short while later in the neighborhood, and had him transported to a hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound. He was ultimately charged in the incident and is being held without bond. The woman was not charged. (weartv.com; Pensacola, Fla.; 6/5 24)
