An elderly woman, well-known in her Florida community for her animal rescue efforts, was feeding a colony of feral cats outside a local business before dawn one morning when she was attacked by a 57-year-old man. However, the senior woman, 77, did not let age deter her, as she was armed and fully prepared to defend herself. The woman opened fire on the man, hitting him. The woman called 9-1-1 and the man was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. As reported in The Blaze, a local resident told WJXT-TV, “We usually don’t have things like that happen here. It’s unfortunate for sure,” adding that while he was sad about the violence, he was glad that the woman protected herself. Another local told the station, “I feel like everyone should use self-defense in that scenario, but it’s sad on both ends. Domestic violence is real these days, and women reacting and defending themselves, finally standing up for themselves, because usually in this case it would be the woman dying.” (The Blaze, Jacksonville, Fla., 10/8/26)
