Headrest Safe 1

There are numerous products on the market today that will lock away your firearm in your vehicle, some that tuck in between seats and some that you stow under your seat, some that attach under the dashboard. This new product from The Headrest Safe Company offers an incredibly discreet vehicle storage system that is defined in the company name—a safe built into a car's headrest. Yes, it's an aftermarket universal headrest that uses a two-post headrest (which is most of the cars on the market). Contents are quickly accessed via a biometric lock reader and keypad. And while gun owners naturally default to the safe as an unlikely place to stash a firearm (it will securely hold a full-size 1911 pistol), think cash, medications and other items you need to keep out of sight of would-be intruders, or the hands of kids or valets when you park your car. Check it out in use it here

The Headrest Safe is completely covered in 1/2-inch foam rubber and the safe itself is made of 18-gauge steel with a 16-gauge steel door. The lock is also made of steel. Once installed (see installation video here), the safe locks in place so only you can remove it. With three ways to open your safe (thumbprint, key and code), you will have easy access to your valuables.

Worried about matching the headrest to your car’s seats? The coverings are made of black or gray “leatherette” or fabric designed to match most of the materials in today’s vehicles. If you’re not sure of the best match, the company will send a swatch of material before you commit to a full order. However, should the product not meet your full satisfaction, the company offers a 100 percent money back guarantee if not fully satisfied.

The Headrest Safe is designed to be installed on the passenger side, giving the driver direct access to the safe from the driver’s seat. However, law enforcement professionals may choose to have it on the driver’s side to store and have quick access when entering and exiting the vehicle in situations where they need to store their sidearm, such as court appearances, etc. The Headrest Safe also offers a matching driver side companion headrest.

Full disclosure, my set of these are on order, so they are not yet installed in my vehicle. However, after discovering this product at the 2023 NRA Show—on full display and demonstrable in exactly the way it will be used once installed—I knew immediately I had to have it!
