The following accounts of brave women who used a firearm to defend themselves and their families appeared in an earlier edition of The Armed CItizen®.
A husband and wife were awakened in the early hours of the morning by the sounds of someone attempting to break down their front door. Armed with her firearm, the wife approached the door as the aggressor continued to kick it in. The homeowner fired multiple rounds. The intruder fired back then fled the scene, leaving a trail of blood. Suspecting an ex-girlfriend who had threatened to kill him and his wife, the husband provided her name to the police. The lead turned out to be correct, and the woman was found hours later at a local hospital being treated for gunshot wounds in the hand and leg. She eventually confessed to the shooting and was charged with attempted murder, attempted aggravated burglary, obstruction of justice, and possession of a stolen firearm. A 20-year-old man attempting to break into an apartment on Detroit’s west side was shot by the female resident. The 33-year-old woman heard the intruder break a window at 12:30 a.m., and immediately retrieved her firearm. The wounded intruder fled, and the intended victim was unharmed.
